Following his widespread arrest earlier this year, Gunna recently pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud, which ended his term. The revelation comes after he negotiated a plea deal that reduced the severity of the sentence, while the remaining defendants, including Young Thug, still face prosecution.
In a statement, the rapper stressed that his confession should not be seen as an escape, pointing to Young Thug and others as the main culprits. He notes that the plea just ends his RICO case and mentions:
“When I got involved with YSL in 2016, I didn’t see it as a ‘gang’: more like a collection of people from metro Atlanta with similar interests and aesthetic goals. YSL’s entertainment focus is on rap artists who have composed and performed songs that dramatize and ‘celebrate’ urban life in the Black community.
As part of the plea agreement, Gunna was subject to conditions of probation and performed 500 hours of community service. In an interview with Complex, he said he plans to use the experience to work for the betterment of his neighborhood and teach future generations about the terrible effects of gangs and violence.

Gunna, also known as Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, was arrested along with Young Thug in May 2022. Both were charged with violating RICO regulations and engaging in illegal street gang activities. Before being detained, the musician’s residence was searched by agents. The charges against Gunna were not made public at the time, but Young Thug was verified as being arrested and transferred to Fulton County.
Although Gunna’s attorneys repeatedly tried to get him released on bail, their petition was denied due to concerns that the evidence used to establish the claims would be forged. On October 13, 2022, the final request was made. Gunna has worked with music labels such as YSL Records, 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records.
