MANILA, Philippines – As announced by Malacaang on February 24, 2019, Colonel Jesus Durante III of the Philippine Army will assume the position of new head of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) after being appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte appointed.

Durante is originally from Davao City and attended the Tanglaw Diwa class of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 1992. He graduated from the same class. He currently holds the position of commander in chief of the Presidential Escort Battalion of the Presidential Security Group.
According to his bio on the Philippine Army’s website, Durante is a “Fiery Scout Ranger” and “one of the most decorated officers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.” Furthermore, the Philippine Army awarded him several medals.
Before joining PSG, Durante served as the commanding officer of the 2nd Ranger Battalion of the 1st Ranger Regiment, the most elite force in the Army. This battalion has its headquarters on the island of Mindanao.
In 2012, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School in California, USA and obtained a master’s degree in defense analysis. In addition, he holds a Master of Science in Public Management from the Philippine Development Institute with a major in Development Security.
In 2007, Durante served as a military observer for the United Nations Mission in Wau, located in South Sudan. In 2003, he was honored with the Cavalier Award for Military Activity presented by the PMA Alumni Association.
Niembra, who served as PSG’s group commander, will soon be promoted to brigade commander in the Army’s 701st Infantry Brigade, part of the 7th Infantry Division and based in Mati, Davao Oriental.
