Flying Scotsman crash Aviemore train: 2 people injured after crash on A9

In an unfortunate incident this evening, the renowned Flying Scotsman was involved in a shunting mishap with another steam train near Aviemore. The collision resulted in two individuals being hospitalized for treatment. Fortunately, the Flying Scotsman locomotive and its carriages emerged unscathed, but the couplings sustained damage during the accident.

The mishap occurred as the Flying Scotsman attempted to couple up with the more luxurious Royal Scotsman, a train celebrated for its high-end dinner service. The collision led to the derailment of the Royal Scotsman, causing a considerable loss of expensive food and wine.

It is widely understood that the Flying Scotsman was tasked with transporting these carriages through the picturesque Highlands. In the past week, this antique engine had been stationed at Aviemore, embarking on trips along the Strathspey Heritage Railway to both Boat of Garten and Broomhill.

North Yorkshire Weather Updates shared a post on fb regarding the train crash:

Two people have been taken to hospital after Flying Scotsman has been involved in a shunting collision with some carriages up at Aviemore this evening. There has been damage to the couplings but it appears that the famous loco itself is unscathed and that the carriages have not been damaged either.

A spokesman for ScotRail provided reassurance, stating, “Due to the emergency services responding to an incident on a private railway near the mainline, we’re currently unable to run any trains through Aviemore station while they work. Everyone on our trains is safe and well, as the incident hasn’t involved us – it’s taken place on a private line next to the mainline in Aviemore.”
