Floyd Sick Obituary: Dansville ambulance EMT driver dies at 62

Dansville, NY – Floyd D. Sick 62, passed away Friday October 20, 2023, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following an accident at his home.

He was born in Dansville on February 24, 1961, a son of the late Frederick and Irene (Weart) Sick. He was also predeceased by his brother Paul Sick, a sister in-law Vicki Councilman. On September 23, 1989, he was married to Shelly Councilman Sick and they raised their children Josh and Hailey in his home town of Dansville.

Floyd worked many jobs throughout his life, most recently he was the Transportation Supervisor for the Dansville Central School System. He loved working for the school and the people who worked there, but the job he most cherished was working for the Shay family at Main Tire in Dansville.

Floyd was community minded and served many years with organizations that will truly miss his commitment to service, including the Dansville Rotary Club 41 years, the Dansville Fire Department 31 years, Dansville Ambulance EMT 11 years with volunteer service for many more, Dansville Youth Softball League Dansville Little League and Dansville Wildcats Basketball. He was also currently a Trustee and Vice Mayor for the Village of Dansville.

Springwater-Wayland EMS, emergency rescue services page wrote,

“Our hearts go out to our friends and EMS neighbors in Dansville. Floyd Sick was a great man and a driver of good EMS care across the region. He will be greatly missed.”

Surviving in addition to his devoted wife Shelly, and his children, Joshua Sick and Hailey (Michael) Snyder both of Dansville, Kellee (Jonathon) Wolowitz of Rochester, grandsons, Carter and Matthew Wolowitz and the light of his life Nolan Snyder; a sister Joyce (Carlton) Osborn, sister in laws Donna Sick and Pam (Mick) Pragle, mother in-law Doris Councilman, brother in law Mike (Leslee) Councilman, two dear friends who became like brothers, Terry (Robin) Muchler and Gene (Nancy) Jackson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Friends may call Wednesday October 25 from 2 to 6 pm at the Dansville Foursquare Church where services will be held at 6:00 pm. Interment will be private in Greenmount Cemetery Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.

The family requests the courtesy of no flowers. Floyd would want to help his community in having memorials in his memory be made to the Dansville Community Center of a local volunteer organizations that directly helps people.

Floyd Sick’s legacy within the community will be remembered for his dedication, leadership, and profound impact on the lives of those he worked with and served. Details of his obituary are yet to be released by the family, leaving the community to mourn the loss of a remarkable individual whose contributions will not be forgotten.
