Five seriously injured, including three kids, after Parnell street stabbing near Ballymun in Dublin City

Dublin, Ireland – A distressing stabbing incident rocked the streets of Dublin City Centre, resulting in five individuals, including three children, being hospitalized due to severe injuries.

The alarming event unfolded at Parnell Square East in the north-inner city around 1:30 pm on Thursday, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement and emergency services.

Among the injured were three young children, a man, and a woman, swiftly transported to various hospitals across the Dublin region for necessary medical attention.

Gardaí confirmed that a five-year-old girl suffered critical injuries and is currently receiving emergency treatment at CHI Temple Street. Meanwhile, a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, with less severe injuries, were admitted to CHI Crumlin for medical care, with the boy already discharged.

A woman in her 30s is undergoing treatment for serious injuries at the Mater Hospital, while a man in his 50s, considered a person of interest in the investigation, also sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment at another regional hospital.

Authorities clarified that they are not actively seeking any other individuals in connection with the incident at this time. However, they emphasized maintaining an open-minded approach in the ongoing investigation’s early stages.

Initial reports from The Irish Times suggest that a man wielding a knife attacked a group of young individuals, prompting intervention from passers-by. A knife was reportedly recovered at the scene, as investigations continue with a technical examination underway at Parnell Square.

Superintendent Liam Geraghty of Mountjoy Garda station conveyed that definite lines of inquiry were being pursued by the Gardaí. He stressed that the male in his 50s was a person of interest in the investigation and urged anyone with information or mobile phone footage of the attack to come forward.
