FGC fighting game legend Ari Weintraub a.k.a fLoE dies at 39

Las Vegas, Nevada – The Fighting Game Community (FGC) is mourning the unexpected loss of one of its beloved members, Ari Weintraub, widely known by his gamer tag “fLoE.” Ari, originally from Park Ridge, Illinois, and later a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on October 16, 2023, at the age of 39, after enduring a series of strokes.

Ari Weintraub was born on October 11, 1984, and quickly established himself as a prominent figure in the Chicago area FGC before gaining worldwide recognition. He excelled in various fighting games, showcasing his talents in titles such as Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, Soul Calibur, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Darkstalkers, and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

His expertise and dedication led him to be associated with the prestigious FGC eSports team, Evil Geniuses, starting in 2011. Ari, known as a “lab monster,” was not only a skilled competitor but also a pioneer in developing new techniques within the gaming community. Apart from his competitive spirit, he was revered for his sense of humor and was considered an exceptional training partner.

Even after retiring from competitive gaming, fLoE remained an active member of the FGC, contributing to various channels and shows like Capcom Pro Talk and Cross Counter. He also maintained a dedicated live stream, engaging with his audience and sharing his passion for gaming.

In addition to his gaming pursuits, Ari worked as a game tester for notable titles such as Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online Edition, The Fast and the Furious, Cruis’n, and Target: Terror. He was cherished for his diverse personality, captivating storytelling, and an unyielding sense of independence that he displayed from an early age. His love for pizza and his unique sense of humor were integral parts of his character.

Through online platforms, Ari connected with a global community, amassing a significant following on YouTube and Twitch, where he regularly streamed games until his retirement in 2019. He also contributed as a color commentator at tournaments, endearing himself to countless fans.

Ari’s online presence allowed him to express himself authentically and form genuine connections with people worldwide. He was an avid dog lover, and his Instagram profile often featured his beloved dog, Koko, as well as documented his adventures in Japan and other destinations.

Ari “fLoE” Weintraub Obituary

Ari Weintraub is survived and celebrated by his mother, half-siblings, extended family, and numerous lifelong friends. A private graveside service will be held to honor his memory, and the family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Celebration of life for Ari will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at King David Cemetery, 2697 E Eldorado Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89120. This is a private ceremony. Please respect the privacy of the Weintraub family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Chabad of Northbrook, Illinois, or Chabad of Henderson, Nevada, in Ari’s memory, to support causes close to his heart.

The Fighting Game Community has lost a cherished member, mentor, and friend in Ari “fLoE” Weintraub. Thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time. May his legacy continue to resonate within the FGC, inspiring and uniting gamers worldwide.
