Esther Thomas of Ilwaco, high school jazz band, dies at the age of 16

Long Beach, WA – Esther Mirabelle Thomas, a beloved member of the Long Beach, Washington community, transitioned into the eternal Kingdom of God on September 28, 2023, at the tender age of 16. Esther’s memory lives on through her vibrant spirit and the immeasurable impact she had on everyone she knew.

Born on August 31, 2007, in Fayetteville, Georgia, Esther was the cherished daughter of proud parents, John Gregory Thomas and Sundrea Dawn Foster Thomas. She spent her early years in Leesburg, Georgia, and later moved to the Long Beach Peninsula, where she attended Ocean Park Elementary School, Hilltop Middle School, and Ilwaco High School.

Esther was an indispensable part of the ministry team at New Life Church in Ilwaco, Washington. She demonstrated her faith by regularly sounding the call to worship on the shofar and contributing to the music and sound weekly. Esther was not only a dedicated student but also a remarkable musician and athlete. In the IHS Jazz band and IHS Concert Band, she played the trumpet with grace and skill. Additionally, she was a double letterman in Cross Country and Track and Field, displaying her prowess in various jump events and excelling as a jumper.

Known for her creativity and vibrant personality, Esther was adored by her friends and family. She had a penchant for science, an excellent grasp of mathematics, and an endearing love for collecting rubber duckies and tiny treasures. Esther was also a distributor of “Dougs,” showcasing her playful and generous nature.

Esther is survived by her loving father, John Thomas, life-giver Sundrea Thomas, and sister Tazlina Thomas. Extended family members, including grandparents and loving aunts, uncles, and cousins from both sides, mourn her loss. Esther’s memory is cherished by the community, and her life is celebrated at the Hilltop Middle School Auditorium on Sunday, October 8th at 2:00 pm.

In honoring Esther’s memory, the family kindly requests donations to be made to New Life Church in Ilwaco, allowing them to continue their impactful community ministry. Details regarding Celebration of Life Services in Ozark, Alabama, at the Ozark First Assembly of God Church, will be announced by Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark, paying tribute to Esther’s life beyond the local community.
