I can tell you it would be awesome if someone captured that moment in a photo of my face. “Ma’am, you need to stop smoking the incense you always burn here,” I wanted to comment. I don’t know what she’s implying. I was completely shocked. I was very angry during class and even more angry the next moment, but I persisted.
In Oxford, Mississippi, where I currently reside, I went to a sports bar four weeks ago. The Rebels game in Omaha to end the Ole Miss baseball season was awesome. Mid-game, I felt a big bump as I scratched my chest. My travel companion, Machelle, was forced to go to the restroom for the experience. I will never forget what she looked like. She was scared.
The following Monday morning, Machelle met me at my gynecologist’s office. My doctor Julie examined me as soon as we entered the room. Her face became extremely confused. We discussed my mammogram a few months ago, after which she left for a film check. She was even more stressed when she returned. The woman said it had been two years, not eight months, since Elizabeth had her mammogram.
Even though I’m hearing the words, I can’t let them sink into them. Can we put our hands together and pray? Machelle stood up in tears before Julie sent me to draw blood. Machelle prayed as we all stood there holding hands in the exam room.
