Efren Manalang Reyes was born in Mexico, Pampanga, Philippines on August 26, 1945. He moved to Manila when he was 4 years old. He then started working as a billiards waiter at his uncle’s billiards room, where he studied many sports. He wasn’t very tall at that time, so he used to stand on a Coca-Cola barrel while playing.
