The East Fishkill Police Department is in mourning as they bid farewell to Officer Daniel P. DiDato, who tragically passed away on Monday evening, December 18th, 2023, at the age of 22. The news has cast a somber shadow over the community, and tributes pour in from colleagues and well-wishers.
The Town of Poughkeepsie PBA shared their condolences on social media, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the DiDato family and our brothers and sisters at the East Fishkill Police Department. Rest in Peace Officer Daniel DiDato.”
According to State Police reports, Officer DiDato lost his life in a collision with a tree on the Taconic State Parkway. The tragic incident occurred while he was en route to Westchester Medical Center at approximately six o’clock on Monday. DiDato had been investigating a car-pedestrian collision near the East Fishkill police station earlier, resulting in serious injuries.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences and ordered all state facilities to lower their flags to half-staff on Wednesday in Officer DiDato’s honor.
Daniel P. DiDato, a 22-year veteran of law enforcement, had served with the East Fishkill Police Department since 2005. Prior to joining East Fishkill, he worked for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Acting Chief Derrick Cuccia remembered DiDato as a “wonderful friend and police officer” who embodied qualities such as honesty, intelligence, bravery, toughness, and wit. He was a cherished member of the community, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
