The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s most recent season revealed the rising tension between Drew Sidora and Ralph Pittman before the couple officially divorced.
In the Sunday episode, Ralph showed up late to the day-long mental health retreat that Drew and the other women were attending. Drew, however, as well as those there, immediately noticed how Ralph seemed to be purposely ignoring his wife after she had given Sanya Richards-Ross’s husband a hug first.
Drew, 38, looked toward Ralph, 40, and replied, “Oh, yeah, my husband is here,” but he looked away to say hello to everyone else. Drew was even disregarded by Ralph when she yelled out, “Hey, husband.”
Drew continued by remarking that since she hadn’t “seen him” all day, she was “waiting for a hug” from Ralph. If Ralph doesn’t see his wife there, is he experiencing some sort of mental breakdown? According to Shereé Whitfield and Kenya Moore in a confessional, “Ralph literally went around the room and hugged everyone except for her.”
“Ralph has been aloof since date night. But it’s awful when he arrives late and acknowledges everyone else but me, she admitted in a confessional.
“This is typical Ralph,” she said. “When he feels disrespected, he is being so cold instead of speaking his mind and expressing how he feels.”
Ralph finally noticed Drew as he approached him and gave him a hug and kiss. Drew met with her marriage counselor Dr. Ken for home therapy later in the show. Prior to that, she discussed how “things have been going downhill” for the couple ever since their date night in a confessional.
We aren’t really conversing. He made his way out of the room. Our marriage is stuck in a never-ending loop, she added. It fluctuates between up and down. We attempt to go out and enjoy ourselves, but then things start to go wrong.
Ralph and I have been married for eight years, the actress continued. In retrospect, we have been addressing concerns of openness, fidelity, and respect. All of it is evolving. Drew claimed that following her and Ralph’s date night, things “spiraled into a disagreement” in a conversation with her therapist, with whom she had been meeting for 13 or 14 months. “I think I can now stand firmer for what I know is best for myself. I’m prepared to set boundaries,” she declared.
Dr. Ken said Drew was expressing her boundaries that “nobody can gaslight” her any longer by reflecting back to her what she had said. After that, he questioned, “Where does that really leave your marriage, though?”
“It’s kind of dubious. Disconnected,” she cried out. “It seems like there is still a lack of emotional awareness, which is all I have ever wished for. For example, I just want you to be concerned about my heart, my feelings, and the things that are significant to me.
She didn’t get married to get divorced, so Drew said, “I’m always willing to try. But the question is, when will things start to improve? How far will someone go to defend their marriage? For instance, he doesn’t go to counseling whereas I do.
Despite Drew’s “hope” that things will “turn around,” she resignedly stated: “Without him showing up and making an effort, it’s impossible. I’m concerned about how our relationship is going.
