Dr. Raymond Mathews Obstetrician-gynecologist dies at 68 in Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines, FL – The Pembroke Pines community is mourning the loss of a beloved figure, Dr. Raymond Mathews, a renowned obstetrician-gynecologist who passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the age of 68, surrounded by his family. Dr. Mathews, affectionately known as “Dr. M.” by his patients, leaves behind a legacy of compassionate care and dedicated service.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, to Raymond Sr. and Norma Mathews, Dr. Raymond Mathews embarked on a distinguished medical career, earning his degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in 1992. He continued his training at the University of South Florida in Tampa, completing his residency in 1996. Dr. Mathews’ genuine empathy and unwavering commitment to women’s health endeared him to his patients, making him a trusted healthcare provider in the Pembroke Pines area.

Known for his comforting presence and exceptional ability to provide solace during vulnerable moments, Dr. Mathews dedicated nearly two decades to his private practice in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Dr. Raymond Mathews is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joann Mathews, his children Elisa LuBan and Raymond E. Mathews, M.D., along with his cherished grandchildren, Mason and Josephine LuBan. He also leaves behind siblings Deborah Kraft, Kenneth Mathews, Bridget Larocque, and sister-in-law Rita Smith, as well as eight nieces and nephews and their families, all of whom were dear to his heart.

A visitation will be held at Fred Hunter’s University Drive Home on Wednesday, November 01, 2023, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at Saint David Catholic Church on Thursday, November 02, 2023, at 10:00 AM. The community joins together to offer thoughts and prayers to the Mathews family during this difficult time as they bid farewell to a respected and beloved member of their community.
