Dr. John Durkin, Merion Mercy Academy science teacher, dies unexpectedly: obituary

Philadelphia, PA – Merion Station, PA – The Merion Mercy Academy community is grieving the loss of a beloved faculty member, Dr. John Durkin, who passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the age of 66. Dr. John Durkin was a distinguished protein biochemist and science teacher at Merion Mercy Academy, contributing significantly to the academic and community life of the school. Throughout his career, Dr. Durkin made significant contributions to the field, holding positions such as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at Weill Cornell Medical College for 11 years and serving as a Research Scientist at Cephalon, Inc. in West Chester, PA, from 1991 to 2011. Later, he transitioned to Teva Pharmaceuticals, where he served as a Senior Scientist in Global Bioassays and Technology from 2011 to 2015.
