As the new managing director of group strategy at Standard Chartered, veteran Southeast Asia consultant Douglas Jackson will be based in Singapore. He left BCG after 10 years working there as a partner and managing director. Prior to that, he worked for AT Kearney for ten years as the company’s country manager in Thailand.
Jackson, a business administration graduate from the University of Washington, began his career in banking in Asia by running for the Bank of Montreal in Taiwan. From there, he joined JP Morgan for 5 years before starting his consulting career at AT Kearney in Thailand after earning an MBA in Finance and Strategy from Columbia Business School.
Before moving to BCG in 2008, Jackson served as country manager for AT Kearney in Thailand around the time the company’s Bangkok office opened. At the time, he advised businesses spanning Southeast Asia, China and Australia. After working as a deputy managing director at Vietnam International Bank in Hanoi for a year as an intern, Jackson finally settled with BCG in Ho Chi Minh City.
Jackson is listed as a core member of BCG’s Financial Institutions, Global Advantage, Marketing, Sales & Valuation, People & Organizations, and Public Sector Practices. However, the majority of his clients work in the banking industry and he has expertise in a variety of areas, including network transformation and corporate strategy development. He moved to a senior advisor position in 2016 from the country head in Vietnam.
Jackson will now manage group strategy at Standard Chartered from Singapore, where the UK-based bank has been in business for more than 150 years and the majority of its business is in emerging markets, primarily in emerging markets. Asia is weak. Pierre Paoli, a BCG alum who joined Standard Chartered CCIB as global head of strategic initiatives earlier in the year, is the most recently appointed BCG alumnus.
Paoli previously spent 11 years with Boston Consulting Group (as a London partner since 2015), where he led the company’s Western European Wholesale Banking operation. Prior to that, he worked at Oliver Wyman for three and a half years, joining the company in 2003 after receiving a technical master’s degree in applied mathematics from the National University of Singapore.
