The community of Virginia is grappling with a profound sense of loss as Dontae Miller, a distinguished AHS Senior from the Class of 2023, tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident. The unexpected passing of Dontae has left his loved ones and the community in shock.
The heart-wrenching accident occurred as Dontae Miller was returning to his home in Potts Creek, Virginia, during the late hours of Saturday night or the early hours of Sunday morning. Tragically, it was determined that he had passed away at the scene of the collision, leaving a void that can never be filled.
Dontae Miller was not just a resident of Potts Creek; he was a remarkable young man with a bright future ahead. He was a gifted wrestler, known for his prowess in the sport, and had earned the esteemed title of Mr. AHS, a testament to his popularity and character within the school community. As a student at Bluefield University, Dontae was poised for continued success in all his endeavors.
Dontae’s mate shared his sorrow on his death. He stated that:
2023 certainly been a tough year. Hate to hear the news of Dontae’s passing. I spent some time with him and Carter during and even after wrestling season!We asked him last minute to go to the I-64 duals tournament in Virginia Beach where competitors come from all over the east coast. This may have been his last wrestling tournament that he wrestled in and he was lights out coming in as a stranger to the team at that tournament. Everyone fell in love with him right away. A fine young man in my opinion from the time I spent with him on the road, staying in hotels, training and at wrestling meets. Many prayers to all the wrestling team as they lost a true friend and leader.One of my favorite memories was introducing him to Chipotle! He wasn’t sure about it then he piled that burrito up with so much they couldn’t hardly get the wrap around it. Lol. Maybe they have one in heaven where he can get another one twice as big.He also passed down the infamous Alleghany Wrestling Head Gear to Carter that gets passed down after the regular season. It was an honor for Carter to be chosen by Dontae to receive it. And much of Carter’s success during his freshman year can me attributed to Dontae as his work ethic was unmatched and he pushed Carter every day at practice and when they practiced after the season. One of the last things he told me was he would be back to wrestle Carter some more at the practices this year when he could get in from Bluefield.A fine young man that never allowed circumstances to become excuses.Rest in Peace Young Man and check on momma for me!!
