Dominic Bottino Obituary: 22-year-old pedestrian killed while crossing Route 30

A tragic incident unfolded in Monongahela, claiming the life of 22-year-old Dominic A. Bottino. The young man lost his life early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 30, as confirmed by Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in the vicinity of Dollar Bank, where Bottino was crossing a divided section of Route 30. He was hit by a Jeep Gladiator driven by a 50-year-old Greensburg man. Bottino, wearing a dark-colored shirt and blue jeans, was in the eastbound lanes with no established crosswalk when the collision happened.

Tragically, Dominic A. Bottino was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Tim Carson ruled the cause of death as an accident due to blunt force injuries. Toxicology test results are pending and expected to be available in the coming weeks.

Dominic Alphonse Bottino was a beloved member of the Monongahela community, born on August 19, 2001, to Anthony J. and Tara Brussalis Bottino, Jr. He was a 2020 graduate of Ringgold High School, actively participating in cross country and soccer. Presently, he was a senior majoring in history at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe.

Dominic’s faith played a central role in his life, being a devout Catholic and an active member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. He was known for his generous and kind-hearted nature, and his absence leaves a void in the lives of his family and community.

He is survived by his parents, four siblings, paternal grandparents, and maternal grandmother, along with aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. The family will be receiving friends and well-wishers for a memorial service at Frye Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, October 5. The funeral will be held the following day at St. Andrew the Apostle, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Monongahela. Additionally, a memorial fund will be established in Dominic’s name to honor his memory, with contributions welcome from the community.
