Domagoj Vida was born on April 29, 1989, in Donji Mihojlac, a parish in Croatia’s Slavonia area, as the son of eljka and Rudika Vida. He hails from a footballing family; his father, Rudika Vida, is a former professional player, as is his brother, Hrvoje Vida. He began playing football at a young age with his local team, NK Jedinstvo Donji Miholjac.

Vida left the academy after many years to join the Turkish professional team NK Osijek, where he spent the remainder of his youth career.
