Divya Prabhu Bio

At the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University in Coimbatore, Divya earned a BSc in agriculture. She is the daughter of Chennai residents B V Jeyanthi, an officer in the ICDS’s Social Welfare department, and G J Ramachandran, a former chief educational officer.

She chose the Karnataka cadre following her IFS training in Dehradun and began working as an assistant conservator in 2012 in Bhatkal, Sirsi, and Karwar before being promoted to Divisional Forest Officer in January of this year. She is presently on maternity leave for six months.

While nine months pregnant, she wrote the IAS prelims.

She told Bangalore Mirror on the phone that her aim has always been to become an IAS official. I debated whether or not to take the preliminary exam. In May of last year, I was nine months pregnant, and the doctor had advised against travelling. Goa, which borders the district of Uttar Kannada, was my centre.

I decided to take the chance of travelling and taking the examinations, she stated. Her husband and family have been extremely helpful. “My son Akhilesh Ramkarthik was born on July 4,” she claimed. I was chosen for the December mains after the preliminary results were made public in August.

My base was in Chennai. After giving birth, I realized it was impossible to study for examinations while sitting still for 4-5 hours straight, like I did for the IFS exams. I could only focus on studying for about an hour at a time when my child was being breastfed.

My family has been a tremendous help. The primary examinations lasted for a week, and while I was answering them, I kept wondering if my kid was hungry. When I was in Chennai, my spouse and parents visited me, which was a blessing.

The exam format and syllabus were modified this year. I brought my son with me to the testing location, and the first thing I did after finishing a three-hour paper and leaving the testing room was to feed him. She added, “I also brought my son with me to the interview last week in New Delhi.

“My experience in government service and the training I received gave me an advantage over the other applicants.” My experience was also helpful because of the focus on general knowledge and the introduction of a new exam called “Ethics, Attitude, and Aptitude,” which is more practical in nature.

In order for us to manage a family and society while also having the confidence to pass the exam, more women need to sign up for the exams,” she said. She advised aspirants, “They need to start getting ready for the degree itself. It is necessary to work hard for at least a year.
