Dipali Das, candidate of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), defeated Tankadhar Tripathy, candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by a significant margin of 48,619 votes, winning seats in constituency nomination of the Jharsuguda Council for the BJD. On Saturday, the results of the by-election in Jharsuguda were made public.
Dipali Das, daughter of former Health Minister Odisha Naba Das, received a total of 107,003 votes, while BJP’s Tankadhar Tripathy received 58,384 votes. Tarun Pandey, a congressional candidate, received 4473 votes.
The murder of Naba Das by a police officer in January 2023 forced Jharsuguda to vote by secret ballot. BJD’s Dipali Das has been consistently leading since Round 1 of the tally.
She had a 28,170 vote lead at the end of Round 11 when the voting ended. By the end of round 13, Dipali had increased his advantage to 34295, and by the end of round 15, the lead had passed 40,000.
“I was able to win the election by a large margin thanks to everyone’s support and blessings. I will see CM Naveen Patnaik soon. The promise I made to everyone will be kept. Dipali Das said my late father Naba Das’ dream will also come true.
Dipali stated that she believes she will win the Jharsuguda by-election by a record margin. Prasanna Acharya, a senior leader of the BJD, stated that the outcome was predictable because people chose to support BJD’s Dipali Das as their candidate. The thoughtful decisions of Jharsuguda voters and the efforts of our staff are commendable.
According to Acharya, Naveen Patnaik, the party’s head, “is without a doubt a popular leader, and people work under his guidance and direction.” He thinks this has become the catchphrase of BJD in this place.
