Winthrop, IOWA – Dean A. Goedken, a beloved resident of Winthrop, Iowa, tragically passed away on September 16, 2023, due to a farming accident near Garnavillo while pursuing his passion. He lived a life guided by his love for farming and the land.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 7 at 5 p.m. at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Dean. Prior to the service, from 2 to 5 p.m., the family will greet relatives and friends at the same location. A meal and fellowship will follow at the Arlington Community Event Center in Arlington.

Dean Allen Goedken was born on March 23, 1961, in Manchester, as the second youngest of thirteen children to Arthur Clarence Goedken and Edna Mae (Fisher) Goedken. Dean’s life was deeply rooted in family values and a strong sense of community.

On June 7, 1986, he entered the sacred bond of marriage with Nancy Adams, and together they were blessed with four children. Though their marriage later took different paths, Dean always cherished the time and experiences they shared. In the final years of his life, he found joy and companionship in the loving presence of his girlfriend, Doreen Dee Olson.

Dean’s enduring spirit lives on through Doreen Olson of Winthrop, his four children, five sisters, seven brothers, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. His warm smile and generous heart touched the lives of many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Clarence Goedken and Edna Mae (Fisher) Goedken, as well as three in-laws.
