The quiet town of Glenville in York County was shaken by a tragic incident as a couple, April K. Rehbein, 60, and her husband, David P. Rehbein, 69, lost their lives in an apparent murder-suicide. The devastating event unfolded at their Glenville residence, leaving the community in shock and sorrow.
April Rehbein’s lifeless body was discovered outside their home, while David Rehbein was found inside, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The grim incident occurred on Tuesday, around 6:15 p.m., in the 4600 block of Shaffers Church Road within Codorus Township, according to police reports.
Tragically, both April and David Rehbein were pronounced dead at the scene. A relative, who had witnessed the heart-wrenching argument that preceded the tragic event, promptly reported the distressing incident to the authorities. Regrettably, by the time they contacted the police, both Rehbeins had already passed away.
Authorities have not disclosed any additional details regarding the incident, but the State Police have confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway. In response to this devastating tragedy, Codorus Township announced the temporary closure of its office until further notice.
April Rehbein had been a valued member of Codorus Township, serving as its secretary-treasurer. She was known for her pleasant demeanor and positive presence, leaving a lasting impact on the community she served.

In a separate incident within York County, another tragedy unfolded as Scott Hoke, 42, shot his estranged wife, Susan Hoke, during an apparent murder-suicide. The couple had been married for 50 years but had divorced recently. Scott Hoke broke into Susan’s residence in Jackson Township, shooting her before turning the gun on himself.
Codorus Township shared a post on facebook. In which they stated that:
“Codorus Township mourns the sudden passing of our Secretary, April Rehbein. April was a valued member of our team and was always a pleasant person to be around. The office will be closed until further notice. As we navigate through this time, no new permits will be issued for the next several weeks. If you have an urgent need, please call the Township at 717-235-4634 Voicemail will be checked daily. Thank you for your patience and understanding”.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the lifeless bodies of both Scott and Susan Hoke in the kitchen, with the gun still in Scott’s hand. Fortunately, a 17-year-old girl who witnessed the horrifying events from a neighbor’s home was unharmed and called 911.
Susan Hoke had a protective order against her husband, which was legally in place. The York County Coroner ruled the deaths as a murder-suicide. There will be no autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing. Police urge anyone with information to contact them at 717-292-3647.
