Dave Phelps Obituary: Founder of Phelps Towing dies at 64 in Leoni Township, MI

Leoni Township, MI – In a heartfelt tribute to a pillar of the community, Dave Phelps, a cherished resident of Leoni Township, Michigan, passed away on September 19, 2023, at the age of 64, at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital.

Phelps Towing Inc. shared Dave Phelps’ death,

“As many have already heard, it is with great sadness, we announce that Dave Phelps, founder of Phelps Towing, has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Phelps Family during this very difficult time. We wish them peace as they heal from this unexpected loss.”

Dave, survived by his adoring family, held them close to his heart: his beloved wife, Holly; daughters, Jessica (Mike) Villarreal and Brooke (Jeff) Dean; step-son, Blake (Kylie) Garver; and a host of grandchildren and relatives who meant the world to him. He leaves a lasting legacy of love and kindness, having touched the lives of many with his infectious laughter and radiant smile.

A lifelong resident of Leoni Township, Dave established and nurtured Phelps Towing in Michigan Center for over four decades, dedicating himself to his business and the bonds he built within the community. Weekends were often spent snowmobiling or enjoying side-by-side rides with friends, embodying the joy and camaraderie he shared with all.

Dave’s generosity knew no bounds, and his humble demeanor left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Preceded in death by his parents, David James “Jim” and Delores M. Phelps, along with several aunts and uncles, Dave’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him in return.

Visitation to honor Dave’s memory will take place at Hampton Funeral Home in Jackson on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will follow on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 11:00 am at JaxNaz Church, 3905 Clinton Road, Jackson, MI 49201, where Reverend Bryce Gernand will preside. Cremation will follow the service.
