Darren Moore Career

He now serves as Sheffield Wednesday’s manager. He represented Jamaica in two international matches and was born in England. Moore also serves on the Professional Footballers’ Association’s management committee.

He started playing football in June 1990 as a trainee with Torquay United, and on March 24, 1992, he made his debut while still a trainee in a 2-1 loss to Birmingham City at home. He began his career in November 1992. Together with Wes Saunders, Moore started the following season as the first choice in the centre of defence. Moore played almost 100 league games for Torquay before leaving in July 1995 to join Doncaster Rovers for a cost of £62,000.

Together with teammates Scott Colcombe and Duane Darby from Torquay, Moore landed at Doncaster. On August 12, he participated in the season’s opening contest at home against Scarborough. On November 4 of that campaign, he scored his first goal in a tie against Barnet. In his two seasons at Belle Vue, Moore totaled 84 games and 8 goals.

Darren Moore News

Sometimes Darren Moore enjoys a cheeky bag of jelly snakes or a late-night bowl of Rice Krispies to toast his victories.

When Sheffield Wednesday’s manager masterminded the greatest comeback in play-off history when they overcame a four-goal deficit against Peterborough to get to Wembley, that must have been one hell of a midnight feast.

In Monday’s League One promotion shootout against Barnsley, Moore, one of football’s nice guys and an unrelenting proponent of optimism – even when the cause appears to be lost – is counting on 44,000 Owls supporters to “drive” Wednesday to victory.

He smiled, “Jelly snakes are my guilty pleasure. Even though they are a little moreish, Rice Krispies are light enough for a late-night snack in my opinion.

After the first leg, when all seemed lost, Wednesday’s defiance of reason against Posh will take some beating in the pantheon of great comebacks.

If not their first victory against overwhelming odds, Liverpool’s comeback against Barcelona in a Champions League semifinal after falling behind 3-0 to win the second leg 4-0 at Anfield was astounding.

They had already been there in the final matchup versus AC Milan 18 years prior, and they had fulfilled the open-top bus reservation.

Paris Saint-Germain’s 6-1 defeat by Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 in 2017, after losing the first leg 4-0 in France, was the result of a perfect storm of inspired goals, two penalties, disputed officiating, and PSG’s jellyfish-like backbone.

And despite losing to Southampton 4-0 at The Dell in a League Cup second-round match in 1980, Watford still managed to thrash the Saints 7-1 after extra time at Vicarage Road.

The following week, the Hornets gave away memento biros to fans at the turnstiles; hundreds of them ended up on Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy’s desk in the mail as thanks for resting Kevin Keegan for the unexpected blitz.

But Wednesday’s assault was just enthralling in its daring, even though referee David Webb’s decision to grant Liam Palmer eight additional minutes was inconsistent with the six appended. This was just enough time for Palmer to square the match on aggregate.
