The first three episodes of Netflix’s Dance Monsters will be published simultaneously on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 3:01 a.m. ET. The next three episodes will be posted on Friday, December 23, 2022, and the final three will be released at 03:01 a.m. ET on Friday, December 30, 2022.
The Pussycat Dolls’ Ashley Roberts will host the show, which will be judged by musician Ne-Yo, YouTuber Lele Pons and choreographer Ashley Banjo. It will feature 15 amateur dancers taking part in an epic dance fight, with their faces hidden until they are eliminated.
The Premise & Rules of Dance Monsters
The show’s 15 dancers will be replaced with computer-generated animals. The judges and audience will just witness a monster-like creature dancing across their screens, mirroring the actions of actual dancers performing off-camera thanks to CGI effects. Throughout the nine episodes, the audience will learn more about real dancers, their lives, and the difficulties and obstacles to becoming professional dancers. Therefore, the dancers are reluctant to appear in front of the camera. Fans will only discover the true identities of the participants after they have been eliminated.
To win $250,000 and the Ultimate Dance Monster title, the contestants will have to go through five rounds of solo dancing, duet and one-on-one dance. The winner will also have the option of pursuing a career as a professional dancer.
Dance Monsters Competition Structure
Round 1 will see participants split into three waves, each featuring five CGI monsters. Five monsters will perform alone first and three dancers will advance to the next round. The two lowest scorers will compete in dance, with only one advancing to the second round. After their identities are revealed, the three eliminated dancers will be sent home.
In Round 2, the CGI monsters will be divided into teams of six. After the solo performance, one contestant from each team will be eliminated. After that, the 2 artists with the lowest scores in the solo stage will continue to enter the dance-off duel. The dancer of each team with the lowest score will be disqualified. Only eight of the Dance Monsters contenders will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will compete in teams of two. After their performance, the four monsters faced disqualification and had to secure their spot in a 30-second solo freestyle match. Two will be eliminated, while six will advance to the semi-finals.
In the 4th round, the surviving contestants will have to win the exclusive finals through solo performances. Only four unidentified CGI creatures will come to a conclusion. After the solo performance, two of the finalists will be eliminated and the other two will engage in a dance battle for the title of Ultimate Dance Monster.
