CSS Question ‘boys will be boys’ Sparks Debate on Social Media

The weird CSS English essay question has sparked a debate on social media. Netizens are sharing photos of questionnaires with interesting comments on social media platforms.

“Boys will be Boys” became the top trend in Pakistan after being the topic of the CSS exam 2023. Central Senior Service (CSS) is a highly competitive exam in Pakistan, with only 1 .94 % out of 20,262 candidates pass in 2022. The English part of the exam is known for its difficulty.

After the exam, candidates took to social media to share their thoughts on the topic, which sparked a debate about accountability for male students and toxic masculinity. One Twitter user praised the judge for bringing up a necessary subject, saying that “Boys will be boys” promotes women’s liberation.

As one user commented, some examiners and members of the academic community felt that after spending many hours studying, the question was too trivial. Others see the subject and others on the exam as a welcome change from memorization. Reactions to the essay’s topics ranged from surprise to humor and in some cases, even anger.

Boys will be really beneficial for women if you look between the lines. It targets toxic masculinity and male privilege, where women are persecuted and subjugated. The aim is to liberate women in this. Competition for a reason #CSS2023
