The Beckley community and the West Virginia National Guard are mourning the loss of Specialist Corey Moore, who tragically passed away in a car accident on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, in Nicholas County. Corey’s untimely departure leaves a void that cannot be easily filled, and the memory of his dedicated service and inspirational leadership will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The accident occurred as Corey Moore was driving southbound on U.S. 19, and his vehicle unexpectedly crossed the median into the northbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with another car. The impact was followed by an abrupt departure from the roadway and a collision with an embankment before coming to a stop. Corey, along with the other driver involved in the incident, was promptly transported to Summersville Regional Medical Center. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Corey succumbed to his injuries.
Notably, there were no passengers reported in either vehicle at the time of the accident. The Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department has initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause and circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Throughout his military career, Corey served as a utilities equipment repairer with the 821st Engineer Construction Company, headquartered in Summersville, West Virginia.
