Colt was a two-time Associated Press 2A Offensive MVP and first-team All-state pick as a high school athlete. He was also the punter at Jim Ned High School as a junior and senior. From 2006 through 2009, he was a four-year starter for the Longhorns. In addition, he was the first player in school history to win or share the team MVP all four years. He was awarded a redshirt year in 2005, therefore he did not participate in the team’s 2005 national championship season. He was also ranked third among quarterbacks, behind Vince Young and Matt Nordgren.
