The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation in response to a heartbreaking incident that claimed the lives of two young men in their 20s late on Monday night in West St. Augustine. Identified as Tre Devon Lyons, aged 22, and Cody James Bennett, aged 21, both residents of St. Augustine, they were tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The gunfire erupted around 11:30 p.m. on North Orange Street, near Webster Elementary School, leading deputies to the collision site of a vehicle that had crashed into a fence. Inside the vehicle were Lyons and Bennett, both found with fatal gunshot wounds.
As of now, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has not made any arrests nor located any suspects connected to the incident, considering it a significant occurrence warranting a thorough investigation.

“ACTIVE INVESTIGATION: On November 27, 2023 at approximately 11:30pm, SJSO deputies responded to the 500 block of North Orange Street in St. Augustine reference citizen reports of gunshots. Deputies located a vehicle crashed into a fence with two adult male subjects inside, deceased from apparent gunshot injuries.“The victims have been identified as Cody James Bennett (21) and Tre Devon Lyons (22), both of St. Augustine.Suspect(s) have not been located.
