Clyde Drexler was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 22, 1962. His mother’s name was Eunice Scott, and he had three siblings: a brother and two sisters named James, Denise, and Virginia. His family later relocated to Houston, Texas, to South Park. His family owned Drexler’s World Famous BBQ & Grill, which is now managed by his other siblings.
He went to Ross Sterling High School, where he was classmates with tennis pro Zina Garrison. He was a baseball player at the time, and he tried out for basketball but was unsuccessful. He later attended the University of Houston, where college coaches noticed his talent. His friend Michael Young introduced him to New Mexico State University, Texas Tech University, and the University of Houston, where he and his friend were both hired as basketball players.
