Christine Burns, Manager at Village of Spring Lake, suddenly dies: Obituary

Ottawa County, MI – The Village of Spring Lake is mourning the unexpected passing of its dedicated Village Manager, Christine “Chris” Burns, who passed away on the night of September 27, 2023. A beacon of relentless positivity and passion, Chris served the community for nearly 12 years and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Chris Burns began her career as a municipal official over 25 years ago, leaving a lasting impact on every community she served. She previously managed the city of Cedar Springs for more than five years and the village of Oxford for nearly two years before taking on the role of Spring Lake’s village manager in July 2012. She was a trailblazer, becoming the first female manager in Spring Lake’s history.

In a testament to her leadership, earlier this year, Chris was selected as the 2023 president of the Michigan Municipal Executives association, making her the fourth female president of the MME since its establishment in 1930. She was proud and honored to have been selected by her peers for this prestigious role, acknowledging the encouragement and belief of mentors that helped shape her successful career.

Chris’s family—her husband, Bill, and daughter, Bre—shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, urging everyone to cherish their loved ones and the time they have together. As the community comes to terms with this unimaginable loss, they are grateful for the outpouring of kindness, thoughts, and prayers.
