In a somber turn of events, Petar Porobic, the esteemed Montenegrin water polo coach, has passed away at the age of 67. Porobic had recently guided the Chinese men’s national team to a remarkable silver medal victory at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games.
Tragically, while on his journey back home, Porobic experienced a heart attack on a plane, and despite efforts from the cabin crew to resuscitate him, their attempts proved futile.

Just a day before this unfortunate incident, Porobic had steered the Chinese team to a silver medal triumph in the men’s water polo final against Japan, marking a significant achievement for the squad.
The news of Porobic’s passing has left players and fans grieving, with an outpouring of condolences and memories flooding social media platforms. Wu Honghui, the goalkeeper of the Chinese team, expressed disbelief at the loss, emphasizing Porobic’s dedication and significant contributions to Chinese water polo.
Captain Chen Zhongxian echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the coach’s pivotal role and stating that the team owed him a gold medal.
