News Catrin Nye

I am pleased to announce that my team and I have been working with Catrin Nye, a BBC journalist, and the team from the BBC Victoria Derbyshire morning news and news program over the past four weeks to film the production process. output video synthesis content.

We created “deep imitation” motion pictures Boris Johnson, prime minister of the United Kingdom, and Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the opposition, using a variety of creative processes and technical techniques called “Changing”. video dialogue (VDR), using deep learning networks and complementary software.

To draw attention to the fact that there are currently no rules or regulatory frameworks to limit the potential of targeted misinformation campaigns online, my team worked with the London-based Future Policy consultant on this project.

The resulting documentary was shown on BBC News at 10am on Tuesday, November 12, and the shorter, 3-minute version has since received more than 500,000 views on Instagram alone.

We’ve been documenting each step of the VDR composite video creation process over the past month. This includes technical effort, research, post-production, VFX, and creative script writing. It also includes recording the voice actor’s AV data.

My intention with this partnership is to make the process transparent to this type of “deeply fake” video content. There is a lot of exaggeration and anxiety about the possible impact of deep pseudo-technology on our democratic processes, and it is my hope that this project will legitimately address some of these concerns. by urging stricter regulation of the systemic problems we face. disinformation campaigns on social media platforms.

Deep spoofing is not currently used in political campaigns, but similar technologies are used every day to subtly influence and control public perception of current issues. on social media platforms and through targeted advertising on search engines like Google.

Real threats to our democracy stem from the limitations and lack of control over these powerful new forms of media and influence, as evidenced by the conclusion of a government committee parliament on the effective use of targeted disinformation campaigns and the use of personal data during the 2016 UK referendum and US election.

We started this campaign because, as we kick off a new UK election, little has changed to prevent large-scale online misinformation efforts from influencing and unreasonable coercion. We want elected politicians to use congressional results and protect our future elections.
