A BBC News journalist Clive Myrie is revealing a completely different side of him as he tells viewers where he likes to travel. In his documentary, Clive Myrie’s Italian Road Trip, he introduces viewers to some of the country’s culinary, historical and cultural highlights.

He played football in Florence, went to the hot springs of Lazio and performed on stage in a nightclub in Capri. Sadly, his wife Catherine had to withdraw, so he had to do all the activities alone.

He replied: “It was part of the idea, likely to be filmed, but maybe not when asked if Catherine would come with him. Contrary to her husband, she is actually a rather reserved, shy person.

But we have builders so we can’t do it, and we’ve been waiting for these builders for a long time, and my wife is pretty picky so she couldn’t do it this time. The goal is that she will come and at least spend some time with us. But Catherine will be there because we go to Italy every year and will do so in August.

“I went there for my 40th birthday and it was beautiful; we were on the Amalfi coast. It’s a special place for us as a couple; we go there every year with a group of friends and have fun. “For both of us, it was a special place.” He will ask the locals to take pictures and videos of him during the journey so he can send them to his wife at home.

He explains his inspiration for the act of thoughtfulness by saying, “I’m trying to get her to do it a little bit by sending pictures because that’s a place we both know very well.”

The London premiere of his book on Swiss cheese in 1992 was when the Mastermind presenter first met his wife, who was working in the publishing industry at the time.

They were married at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Covent Garden, where he claimed it was love at first sight for him.

After returning to the UK for their big day, they flew back to the US before honeymooning on Venezuela’s Maracaibo coast as Clive was recently appointed BBC’s LA correspondent.
