Carly Twarog obituary: Software Developer & Skylar Carnes’ wife passes away in Kansas, KS

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Carly Twarog Carnes, the beloved wife of software developer Skylar Carnes, has passed away. Carly, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, left this world surrounded by her devoted husband and family. Her demise has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. As of now, the cause of her death remains undisclosed.

Carly’s journey was marked by remarkable strength and resilience. She faced the battle of her life after being diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma just days before her wedding on June 4, 2022. Despite the challenges, Carly and Skylar proceeded with their wedding as planned, although their honeymoon had to be postponed due to her immediate need for treatment. Carly continued her fight against the illness, undergoing treatments that stretched until May of 2023.

A testament to her indomitable spirit, Carly’s life was characterized by fierce competitiveness, unwavering dedication, and an unyielding work ethic. In her senior year, she played a pivotal role in leading the “Giant Killers,” a team of 5’7 and under athletes, to a remarkable third-place finish in a field of 4A giants in 2010. Carly’s athletic prowess extended beyond high school, as she excelled in races, marathons, and academic pursuits, embodying a rare blend of determination and humility.

Brad Herlocker shared a post  on fb on the death of Carly:

We are all here for a short time…. This world dimmed with the great loss of our sweet Carly Twarog! Where do you start with (CT) Carly….. What a beautiful soul…. She personified extreme competitiveness, toughness, dedication, work ethic, strong will, while giving equal parts humility, kindness, and gentleness to everyone she came in contact with. I would argue with anyone that no one has ever made more of their time on this earth nor of their abilities than Carly. I could go on and on about her basketball skill but that was not what made her special…. Looking back I was so lucky to come to Girard and have the ability to coach her and her teammates. I learned way more from them than they did from me. She was instrumental to the first ever girls appearance at state in Girard history and her senior year she helped the 5’7 and down “Giant Killers” come oh so close the state championship in 2010 getting third in a field of 4A giants. After high school she took those same attributes to win races, marathons and reach her academic goals!! She also made time to give back to our program by coming to alumni games and inspiring the next groups. I’m so happy she went to heaven surrounded by her wonderful husband and family! I’m sure she is up there now probably hitting those pretty game winning jumpers and winning races and feeling better than she has in a long time…. Carly you will be missed and never forgotten by all the lives you have touched. Rest easy and I look forward to the day we meet again! Prayers for strength, peace, understanding and comfort to Skylar Carnes Mary Twarog Dave and rest of the family, we are all heartbroken and it is such a loss for this earth but a huge gain for the place we all hope to go one day. RIP, LOVE ❤️ Coach

Carly’s impact extended far beyond the sports arena. She generously gave back to her community by attending alumni games and serving as an inspiration to future generations. Her contributions were instrumental in guiding the Lady Trojans to their first and second state tournament appearances, finishing third in the latter. Throughout her four-year basketball career, Carly played an integral role in the team’s undefeated streak in CNC play. Additionally, she lent her expertise to the volleyball team, helping them qualify for three state tournaments.

Carly’s life was a testament to the power of resilience, kindness, and selflessness. As the community mourns her loss, thoughts and prayers are extended to Skylar Carnes, Mary Twarog, Dave, and the entire family during this incredibly challenging time. Carly’s legacy as a beacon of strength and inspiration will undoubtedly endure, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
