Can You Have Multiple Contractions in One Word? (Video)

Everyone knows contractions like Are not And will have, but what about more complicated ones? Editor Serenity Carr looks at situations where up to five words can be shortened at once.

Transcript:

You may be familiar with common contractions made with two words like you want And Are not. And maybe you even used three-word abbreviations like she has And will not. I thought they were familiar to you and you wouldn’t be surprised to hear them.

But can we contract more than three words? More than four? You wouldn’t guess they could happen, but they are. Many are dialects or regions. You’ll hear them from Southerners in places like Texas or Georgia, where they don’t think twice about using them. We can guess more, but at some point, you still can’t understand them.
