Hamilton, Ontario – Hamilton Conservation Authority Manager and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Bruce Harschnitz passed away on November 8, 2023, after a tragic accident. Struck by a car while walking on White Swan Road in Brant County at approximately 6:00 am, Harschnitz’s untimely death was confirmed through a somber Facebook post.
Bruce Harschnitz, an accomplished professional, began his journey in environmental science, earning a degree from Trent University. His career commenced in 1990 as a marina attendant and parks worker at Fifty Point in Winona. Through dedication and competence, he climbed the organizational ladder, serving as the superintendent at Christie Lake for 23 years before transitioning to a similar role at Confederation Beach Park for three years. In 2017, he took on the role of the manager of conservation areas services.

In addition to his managerial duties, Bruce contributed significantly to public service. In 1998, he joined the OPP Auxiliary, following his tenure with the Paris Police Auxiliary Unit. Bruce’s commitment to the Auxiliary was evident in his active involvement, consistent patrols, and participation in community events, including the recent Friday the 13th event in Port Dover. His peers lauded him as an engaged leader, exceptionally professional, and consistently attentive to all aspects of the program.

The family will release Bruce Harschnitz’s obituary at a later date, allowing friends, colleagues, and the community to reflect on the life of a dedicated professional and public servant who left an indelible mark through his service with the Hamilton Conservation Authority and the Ontario Provincial Police.
