Gary, IN – A somber turn of events unfolded over the weekend as the Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed the discovery of Brittni Campbell’s lifeless body in the Little Calumet River. The 36-year-old Gary woman, previously reported missing, was found near 3000 Chase Street.
Brittni Campbell’s disappearance had prompted a search that sadly concluded with the discovery of her body in the river around noon on Saturday. The Lake County Coroner’s Office officially identified her as the victim, marking a tragic end to the search that began when she was reported missing on September 12.
While the circumstances of Brittni Campbell’s disappearance and subsequent death remain shrouded in uncertainty, the Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy at the Lake County Forensic Science Center in Lake Point. As of now, the cause and manner of her death are pending further details.
The family positively identified Brittni Campbell on Monday, facing the heartbreaking reality of her demise. In light of this tragic event, the family is expected to release an obituary and funeral arrangements to allow the community to pay their respects.
