According to the Daily Herald, Brian Peck, 60, was heavily reprimanded by a judge on Monday for the murder and dismemberment of 76-year-old Gail Peck in 2017 at their suburban Chicago home. The judge cited Brian Peck’s “irreparable depravity” in his remarks.

Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo told the court, “It doesn’t get much worse than that.” Peck, of Elgin, received a 50-year prison sentence for killing his mother, a 20-year sentence for mutilating her body, and a 5-year sentence for covering up the crime. But since the sentences will then be served at 50%, he will actually serve 62 (12 years) in prison – about 4 years less than he has served pending trial.
According to acquaintances, Peck’s mother is a dog lover and breast cancer survivor who will celebrate life “even without the occasion,” according to a report in the Daily Herald. Peck was found guilty of murdering his mother in February.
“How can you look down on your mother like that?” Sherry Orrico, a close friend of Gail Peck, took the question Monday in court. “She was buried to pieces with her body parts still missing, so she didn’t get the honor she deserved…”
Then, according to Peck, he “snapped” his mother’s legs, dropped her to the ground, stepped on her, and put his foot on her neck. According to the newspaper, he then proceeded to dismember her body and put some of her remains in a trash bag before throwing it in Lake Michigan.
The report says that Peck then dumped part of his mother’s remains in a suitcase and duffel bag, both filled with bricks, down Lincoln Park in Chicago.
The next day, Gail Peck’s son called the police and said she went for a walk with her dog but didn’t come back. The duffel bag containing some of her body parts was later found in the lagoon by a fisherman a day later.
Peck declared in court on Monday, “I love my mother with all my heart and soul,” which turned detectives on.
According to the Naperville Sun, Gail’s lone child, Peck, admitted to dismembering his mother because he didn’t think police would accept his request to defend himself.
On the other hand, Cataldo was outspoken in reprimanding the first-degree killer. The court asked: “What kind of person can look at their mother… and chop her body like that.”
