Candee was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle through the scenic Sam Houston National Forest when tragedy struck. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on FM 149 close to FM 1375. Candee was making a turn onto FM 149 from FM 1375 when his motorcycle collided with a silver Nissan Murano. It is alleged that the driver of the Nissan failed to yield the right of way, leading to the collision. Despite being rushed to HCA Conroe Hospital promptly, Candee succumbed to his injuries. The driver and a passenger in the Nissan emerged unharmed, leaving the community in shock and mourning the loss of a fellow resident.
In a separate incident in Rockville, Maryland, a fatal collision occurred late September on Veirs Mill Road. At 7:57 p.m., emergency responders were called to the 12800 block of Veirs Mill Road, where a gray 2019 Jeep Limited and a black and red 2016 Suzuki GSX-R motorbike were involved in a fatal collision. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the Jeep attempted to continue eastbound on Veirs Mill Road after making a U-turn from westbound Veirs Mill Road. Tragically, the motorcycle rider, later identified as 40-year-old Rockville resident Hector Luis Betancourt-Rivera, was heading in the opposite direction of traffic and sustained fatal injuries.
Both incidents have sparked investigations by authorities. In Texas, the focus is on determining the circumstances surrounding the failure to yield, leading to Brian Candee’s tragic demise. In Maryland, the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) of the Montgomery County Department of Police is conducting a thorough investigation to understand the events leading to the collision between the Jeep and the Suzuki motorcycle.
