Activision Blizzard was sued by the state of California in 2021 on the grounds that it had developed a persistent culture of harassment over the years. “However, the announcement of the lawsuit is only the first in a series of reports detailing the many forms of harassment taking place within Activision Blizzard. In the midst of this investigation, The Wall Street Journal published an article accusing Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, of knowing, ignoring, and sometimes harassing his employees.
Kotick has denied several claims, including one that he allegedly threatened to kill his assistant in voicemail, but apologized on behalf of others.
Kotick again refuted claims that Activision Blizzard has a widespread abuse problem in a new interview with Variety. Instead, he attributed the company’s problems to the labor union.
“We have conducted every kind of investigation imaginable. And we have never had a problem with systematic harassment,” he added in the interview. But we had a very active and determined labor movement that was trying to sabotage business.
Kotick claims that Activision Blizzard has a relatively low number of harassment complaints against its 17,000 employees and considers news of employee harassment and abuse to be “false characterization”. In a transparency report released on Wednesday, the group described progress toward several goals, including hiring more women and increasing the number of harassment complaints it receives and resolves. The report states that the business reviewed 116 complaints and was able to substantiate 31 of them.
