Bob Lothenbach’s passing, confirmed yesterday, has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. A resident of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Bob Lothenbach earned recognition as the state’s TOBA Outstanding Breeder of the Year in 2019. His association with Canterbury Park dates back to its inception in the mid-1980s. Boasting facilities in Lexington, Kentucky, and Saint Michael, Minnesota, Lothenbach’s breeding operation includes an impressive roster of 34 broodmares, 93 horses of racing age, 22 yearlings, and 22 foals.
Lothenbach’s imprint on the racing world is evident through notable homebred horses such as the millionaire Mister Mardi Gras and grade 1 winner Mayo On the Side. His breeding prowess extends to producing successful runners like Millionaires Vacare, Bearpath (2010 Pan American Stakes winner), and Sonic Boom (2017 American Derby victor).
