News Berit Berger

In the DA’s office as senior assistant attorney for policy and strategic initiatives is Berit Berger, another former federal prosecutor. To “ensure that every prosecutor realizes the enormous responsibility of their position and has a place to seek ethical advice,” Rocah has established her new job as chief ethics officer, which she will take over.

The upcoming DA pledges to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to intentional misconduct in the prosecution process, along with new guidelines on how prosecutors should cooperate—or not cooperate— with police officers who are the subject of an investigation. Berger was most recently executive director of the Center for Promoting Public Integrity, a partnership between Columbia Law School and the New York City Department of Investigation to support local anti-corruption initiatives direction.

Lila Kirton is a senior member of the team who has worked in the office before. She will serve as director of diversity, equality and inclusion in addition to her role as executive assistant district attorney for intergovernmental relations and criminal justice programs. Prior to joining the district attorney’s office in 2017, Kirton, a former division head in the state attorney general’s office, served for three years as special counsel on the county board of elections and for four years as chief of staff to the Westchester Legislative Council. She will continue to serve as the director of the office of immigration affairs set up by Scarpino.

Daniel McKenna, a recently retired FBI agent, is chosen by Rocah to lead the investigation into the cold-blooded murders around the county.

In Westchester, McKenna served as a supervisory agent and was in charge of the Safe Streets Task Force, which cooperated with officers from various police departments in Westchester. He oversaw the investigation into the kidnapping and murder of Valerie Reyes in New Rochelle, which led to the arrest of Reyes’ ex-boyfriend, Javier da Silva Rojas.

Wade Hardy, a retired White Plains police officer and first vice president of the Westchester Rockland Defenders Association, serves as deputy chief of investigation. Hardy has worked in corporate security for Con Edison for the past 12 years. He will be responsible for controlling justice, accountability and openness.
