Ben Field News
It was made possible thanks to the hard work of Southwater Parish Council, its budgeted funds for the skate park project’s reconstruction, Section 106 contributions, and the insurance settlement obtained following the sad fire occurrence in August 2020.
The skate and BMX park has been a booming gathering place for fans ever since it opened in 2006. The skate park became well-known for offering one of the best riding experiences on a timber surface in the South.
The parish council kept in regular contact with a designated user consultation committee and actively involved skate park users throughout the reconstruction project. Through their cooperation, the community’s needs and desires for a timber riding surface were taken into consideration when designing the new park, which also included some cutting-edge features. A thrilling riding experience is promised by the hybrid structure made of galvanized steel and timber, which is reminiscent of the attributes cherished in the original skate park.
Although there were difficulties along the way, such as delays in receiving planning clearance, the Parish Council’s perseverance paid dividends. Three years after the fire, the skate park is once again standing tall and proud, ready to welcome riders of all ages and ability levels, reiterating its status as a beloved community asset and a location of shared joy and enjoyment.
The skatepark’s official opening on Monday was a wonderful joy and privilege, according to Southwater Parish Council Chairman Derek Moore. The council’s efforts are to be commended for making this happen; may the skatepark serve the neighborhood for a very long time.
