On Monday, December 11, 2023, the community received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Shauna Beverley Hinkson, who is said to have died by suicide. Shauna was the sister of Shaquille Hinkson, a respected entrepreneur with ties to both New York City and Miami. The news of her passing has left loved ones in mourning, reflecting on the profound impact she had on their lives.
A visitation to celebrate Shauna’s life was held on Tuesday, December 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Caribe Funeral Home, located at 1922 Utica Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11234. The funeral followed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and burial took place at 2 p.m. at The Evergreens Cemetery, located at 1629 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11207.
In light of this tragedy, the community is reminded of the importance of mental health awareness and support. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national network that provides assistance and links callers to crisis centers across the United States. It operates 24/7 and can be reached toll-free by dialing 9-8-8. This service offers support for those going through emotional challenges or contemplating suicide, providing an anonymous and compassionate space to share their stories.
It is crucial to note that while the 988 Lifeline is a valuable resource, in any immediate life-threatening situation, the emergency number 911 should be called without delay.
During this difficult time, the community extends its deepest condolences to the Hinkson family and encourages everyone to prioritize mental health, seek support, and reach out to those who may be struggling. Together, we can foster an environment of understanding and compassion to prevent further loss to suicide.
