History
Myra Maybelle Shirley was born in Carthage, Missouri, on February 5, 1848. Her father, John R. Shirley, was a farmer who later owned a local inn. Her mother, Eliza Hatfield Shirley, is related to the Hatfield family with the notorious Hatfield-McCoy feud.
Belle Starr has been married three times. Her first husband was James C. Reed, a Confederate soldier and outlaw. They married in 1866 and had two children, Pearl and Eddie. Reed was killed in a gunfight in 1874.
In 1880, Belle Starr married Sam Starr, a Cherokee Indian and outlaw. They have no children together. Sam Starr was killed in a gunfight in 1886.
Grave
