Army Reserve 411 Engineer Company technical engineer Dominic Snyder dies unexpectedly

Des Moines, IA – The passing of Dominic Snyder, a technical engineer in the Army Reserve 411 Engineer Company, has deeply saddened his community in West Des Moines, Iowa. Dominic, 24, tragically passed away on December 12th, 2023, in what reports indicate was a case of suicide.

Born on September 24, 1999, in Burlington, Iowa, Dominic was known for his fervent dedication, both to his faith and his service in the military. His commitment to his beliefs was evident when he embraced his faith in Jesus Christ in 2016 and actively engaged in charitable missions, including Work Camp trips with First Christian Church and a significant mission to Haiti.

Described as someone with an old soul, Dominic possessed a breadth of knowledge and interests, engaging in conversations spanning cars, futból, music, and his deep passions for food and travel. His quick wit, paired with his charm, allowed him to effortlessly forge connections, forming lasting friendships wherever he went.

“Man this is a shock. I know we weren’t close at all especially after school but the memories we had during Mr Thorns class and being on the bowling team were Definitely something lol but rest in peace buddy”

Dominic’s recent return from a 10-month deployment in the Middle East with the Army Reserve highlighted his unwavering commitment to both his family and his country. His service and dedication defined his character, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Survived by his parents, Dustin and Megan Snyder of Burlington, siblings Christian and Aliya, and beloved grandmothers, Dominic leaves behind a cherished legacy. His passing was preceded by the loss of his grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and great-grandmothers.

The community will come together to honor Dominic’s life at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, for visitation from noon until 7:00 PM, with a memorial service scheduled for Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Pastor Scott Collier will officiate the service, followed by a gathering for food and fellowship at Crossroads Church.
