Lexi and Rae, one of the few engaged couples in the final episode of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” faced some challenges after the cameras stopped rolling. So are they still together?
Chris Coelen, the show’s creator, spoke to Variety in July 2022 about the reasons people give for not being ready to get married. He mentions that while some of those reasons may be valid, the underlying truth is often the uncertainty about being married to their current partner.
Lexi and Rae initially hooked up on Bumble and quickly hooked up after a memorable night in West Hollywood, California. However, their relationship did not last.
According to the rules of “The Ultimatum,” Lexi and Rae must break up after their engagement, date other actors for a week, then decide if they want to enter into a three-week “trial marriage.” With whom. They will then go back to living together for another three weeks and ultimately decide whether to leave the show to be engaged to each other, engaged to someone else, or single.
In the reunion episode, host JoAnna Garcia Swisher checked in with engaged couples to see how their relationship progressed. Lexi expressed that the past year has been wonderful, with marriage proposals, vacations and a move back to California. However, the reunion ends with a card stating that Lexi and Rae have chosen to end their relationship and the wedding has been postponed.
Lexi explains that they spent an extra month trying to resolve some of the unresolved issues that have resurfaced. There is a break in trust that they cannot repair, despite their best efforts. It involves a lot of fighting and a sense of pride in wanting to survive.
For Lexi, there was initial hesitation in proposing for fear of what a failed engagement would mean. She feels weighed down by that possibility, especially when she’s really trying to mend the relationship. The breakup was painful and sad for both of them, as they mourned their disconnect.
Although their relationship has ended, Lexi emphasizes that she still cares about Rae and wishes her the best. Both realize that they are not suitable for each other.
In May 2023, Lexi discusses the trust issues they face, including Rae’s involvement with Vanessa, their probationary wife, and the show’s villain. Lexi mentioned that one’s trust and character are very important in relationships, and that’s where the stress comes in.
Lexi expressed no regrets about participating in the program. She believes that everything is going as it should be. If given the opportunity, she would like to continue living with her probationary wife, Mal, for another three weeks, as she cherishes their time together.
Lexi still wishes to get married one day and spend her life with someone. However, she believes it’s important to think about the reasons behind that desire and consider it. Society’s rigid expectations about when and how to get married changed for her. She advises others to listen to themselves, follow their hearts, and consider their thoughts to come to the right conclusions.
According to Netflix’s Tudum event, Lexi has found love with someone new who provides her with the love, happiness, and intimacy she sought after her relationship with Rae ended.
As for Rae, she is currently single and resides in Orange County, CA. However, she plans to move to Los Angeles in search of a new community and eventually a soul mate. Rae feels more secure and confident than ever and believes that is the ideal state when looking for a future partner.
So, to answer the question, Lexi and Rae are no longer together after their journey on “The Ultimatum: Queer Love”.
