Angel Mata obituary: 17-years-old student of Maine East High School passes away in Niles, IL

Niles, Illinois – The community of Niles, Illinois, is mourning the tragic passing of Angel Mata, a 17-year-old student at Maine East High School. Angel’s life was cut short on Monday, September 25, 2023, when he was struck by a vehicle, leaving his family, friends, and the entire community in shock and sorrow.

The Niles Police Department responded to a distress call at approximately 2:29 a.m., reporting an accident at the 8200 block of West Ballard Road. Angel was found at the scene with severe injuries and was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Tragically, despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead. Investigators have revealed that Angel was in the roadway when he was struck by a Nissan Xterra. Remarkably, the driver of the Xterra initially remained unaware of the collision with a pedestrian but is now actively cooperating with law enforcement authorities.

The statement accompanying the account reads, “These funds are to help me with the expenses of my son Angel who died in an accident, and since I am very low-income, we practically live day to day, and I have 3 more small children who like to help with whatever they like, thank you very much.”
