In Jackson’s Human Look, a famous poet has lived with Marfan Syndrome, including severe scoliosis, and his poems speak for those often perceived as “others.” or aliens, offers a groundbreaking insight into the experience of people with disabilities.

Much of the poetry in the book, according to the local poet, was written while he was finishing his doctorate. I published the book online at the end of 2021 and I am very happy to receive the ALS Gold Medal in July 2022 this medal does not come with any cash prizes but has a lot of praise , according to Jackson.

In 2022 the book was also nominated for the Victorian Prime Minister’s Literary Award, and at the end of that year I received the Prime Minister’s Literary Award, which is amazing.

People stopped me in the street to congratulate me, and my reaction was incredibly moving,” he said.

Jackson claims that in his mid-20s he first developed a passion for poetry. He attended reading sessions and events in Melbourne to share and develop his work before continuing his education to hone his skills.

The local poet expressed his joy at being recognized for his work in such an illustrious company. It’s great to finally have the opportunity to share my work (post-COVID) in public through readings in your community and elsewhere. He said: “Friday’s event and my participation in the upcoming Newcastle Writers’ Festival with an online presence are both something I’m really looking forward to.

Jackson expressed gratitude for the most recent award, saying it would allow him to “breathe” and focus on his work. “I have also lectured, mentored and mentored a lot in person through Victoria and RMIT writers.

He said, “I am especially passionate about supporting young and emerging poets as they find their voice. Jackson added that he was pleased to see efforts being made to establish an Australian “Poet Prize Winner”.

It’s great to see this initiative catching the attention of the Writers Guild of Australia, a new literary funding organization, which is involved in the process. Rather than a more formal approach, I would really like to see this approach focused on the community,” he commented.

Jackson will perform a 20-minute reading Friday night, followed by audience Q&A and an encore. The event will start right away at 6pm and end at 7pm

Every first Friday of the month, Poetry on Excitement Hill showcases poets from Melbourne, rural Victoria, interstate and beyond at the chapel of Castlemaine Unification Church, off Lyttleton Street. Boom Town Wine is offering each customer a free glass of wine. The poet was compensated with a gift of $5.

Poems by Andy Jackson

Bloody, stunted, crippled, lost – somehow thinking can be so small, while I’m incomparable, just a dwarf because the so-called ordinary people are taller. You should just walk on, but don’t. Have you ever thought that you have to look from this one

height? When I walk or shop, I feel inspired. It’s great to see you coming out, you say, imagining waking up in my body, the courage you don’t have to kill yourself, stat. How do you live with that? That’s me wondering again, distractedly eating a sandwich (oh!)

In my house, I’ve made it so I’m faced with cabinets and ovens, things we all want. I sleep in my own bed (sometimes alone). At work, my room is longer and wider than yours. Yes, this is not a song – but then it was never for you.
