Andrew Fantasia, Jackson Memorial High School teacher, arrested on charges of child sexual abuse

A disturbing incident unfolded in Jackson, Ocean County, as Andrew James Fantasia, a middle school teacher and esteemed coach at Jackson Memorial High School, was arrested on Wednesday on allegations of official misconduct and child sex charges. Fantasia, 27, was taken into custody and is currently being held at Ocean County Jail.

According to official documents, Fantasia is facing charges of official misconduct in the second degree, as well as two third-degree offenses for endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated criminal sexual contact. These charges carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison. The reported date of the offenses was February 25.

Fantasia, a middle school math teacher since September 2021 with an annual compensation of $60,087, also served as the assistant track coach and the club adviser for the mock trial squad at Jackson Memorial High School, as confirmed by the district’s spokesman, Allison Irwin. The school district promptly suspended Fantasia after the arrest.

In a letter addressed to the parents, the school district acknowledged the arrest and assured the community that the teacher in question had been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. The district emphasized its commitment to conducting thorough background checks on all employees, although the letter did not disclose the name of the arrested educator.

Further details were withheld due to the ongoing police investigation, as per the statement issued by the school district. The community remains shocked by the distressing turn of events, with authorities continuing their efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
